Walk this way
Walkers will be putting their best feet forward to raise
money for Nottinghamshire wildlife venture Hedgehog Welfare,
as well as the British Heart Foundation.
They will be taking part in a walk of around two miles to mark
Hedgehog Awareness Week at the headquarters of UK Countrylife
Ltd at Shackerdale Farm, near Screveton, Bingham, on May 7th.
The
walk features information about environmental farming, a hedgehog
awareness trail and quiz - giving participants the chance to
find out more about where their food comes from and wildlife
habitats.
Prizes are on offer in three age groups, and the first 20 under-16s
to complete the course will be given a free ice cream.
Organisers are now appealing for more volunteers to sign up,
and help raise money for the British Heart Foundation and the
Newark-based Hedgehog Welfare, which cares for sick, injured
and orphaned hedgehogs, and offers advice to the public on what
to do if they discover a hedgehog in distress.
UK Countrylife's FarmShop and CountryKitchen will be open during
the event, which runs from 10am to 4.30pm to give walkers the
chance to choose a convenient starting time. Farmer and UK Countrylife
MD David Rose will also be giving two guided tours around his
land at 11am and 2.30pm. These must be pre-booked.
The hedgehog trail sponsored walk marks the beginning of a summer
season of pre-booked guided walks David is giving for schools
and other groups interested in the countryside. For information
about the walks, or for a sponsor form or further details call
01949 829006 or email
us.
