UK Countrylife Ltd scoops top national award
Great news! UK Countrylife Ltd has been named as NFU Countryside
Small Business of the Year 2003.
The Nottinghamshire-based firm, which runs Farmshop Home Delivery
and Farmshop Specials - dishes made from regional ingredients
- scooped the title in the annual awards, which are handed out
to reward innovation and achievement in rural life.
At a gala lunch in London, former Blue Peter star Simon Groom
presented the company with a framed certificate and £500
to mark the achievement.
Sales manager Ian Jalland, who picked up the award on behalf
of the company, said: "We are absolutely thrilled to receive
such a prestigious accolade. There was a lot of competition
from companies across the UK, who are involved in all sorts
of innovative businesses including the manufacturing of lime
mortars and an activity farm for children.
"Our schemes to promote regional food and to reconnect
farmers to consumers obviously caught the judges' eyes, and
we are delighted they have given us this award. I'd like to
thank our loyal suppliers from Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire,
Lincolnshire and Leicestershire, all our customers, and our
staff who have been vital to our success."
UK Countrylife Ltd, which is based at Car Colston, near Bingham,
launched Farmshop Home Delivery three years ago to supply local
food to local people. Around 40 producers now supply a wide
variety of products to Farmshop, which in turn delivers them
direct to homes in Notts and Leics. Last year the firm launched
Farmshop Specials - a range of dishes based on regional ingredients,
which are sold through home delivery and also via delis, farmshops
and other retail outlets.
