New look, new endorsement, new dishes for unique range of
regional meals
A mouth-watering menu of meals based on ingredients from
the East Midlands is going from strength to strength with the
introduction of new dishes and new packaging.
At
the same time, farmshop specials now proudly carry the British
Meat endorsement, granted by the Meat and Livestock Commission.
Farmshop specials are a range of gourmet meal solutions that
have been prepared by a chef using some of the best ingredients
that are grown or produced in the East Midlands. The healthy,
wholesome meals are designed to be easily cooked within the
home, and are being sold in retail outlets across the region
and beyond - helping to boost the local economy and raise the
profile of the area's food industry.
"Survey after survey tells us that many people are concerned
about the way food is produced and that when choosing food they
place a lot of importance on environmental and animal welfare
considerations, and whether the food is local," explains
David Rose, the founder of farmshop specials. "Yet at the
same time, many people have less time to cook from scratch and
rely on meal solutions.
"We
have blended some of the very best ingredients from the East
Midlands to create a range of meal solutions that are proving
very popular. In response to the success we have now added an
even greater choice."
Two new dishes - Sherwood Forest pork in honey and ginger, and
Heywood Oaks sausage spiral in BBQ sauce - have joined the farmshop
specials range, which already includes favourites such as Nottinghamshire
wild rabbit pie, Charnwood beef braised in Melton red ale, and
Rutland wild venison casserole. Other new recipes are due to
be introduced in coming weeks, including Peak District trout
in lemon and herb butter.
Farmshop specials meals will now also come in a new eye-catching
sleeve, which highlights the local nature of the dish, the emphasis
on quality, and the way that it has been created using only
responsibly produced meat and other ingredients. The British
Meat logo is also being displayed on meat dishes.
Farmshop specials are a sister scheme to Farmshop Home Delivery,
which was launched to supply local food to local people in Nottinghamshire
and Leicestershire. Based at Car Colston, near Bingham in Nottinghamshire,
the organisations were set up by farmer David Rose to encourage
the responsible production of food, to boost markets for local
farmers and to give consumers easy access to the wealth of food
produced in the region.
New
producers have also recently joined Farmshop Home Delivery,
including champion pie maker Lime Tree Pantry, from Ollerton,
and Delicious Dips, from West Bridgford, both in Notts, and
Peak Puddings, from the heart of the Derbyshire Peak District
National Park.
"We carefully pick the farmers and producers that we deal
with to ensure they conform to our strict environmental and
animal welfare standards," adds David Rose, whose innovative
approach to the future of farming led to a meeting with Prime
Minister Tony Blair last year. "And all our meals are free
from artificial flavourings and colourings. We are convinced
that this is what the consumer wants now, and our success across
the region seems to confirm it."
