Farmshop Home Delivery comes under the national spotlight once again

The Prime Minister during the debate on the future of British FarmingFarmshop Home Delivery and the Farmshop Specials range of prepared meals have been showcased at an event to celebrate some of Britain's pioneering local food businesses.

Managing Director David Rose was invited to attend Foodwise 2003 - an exhibition highlighting how British food producers are successfully diversifying and developing.

He joined producers from around the country - all of whom are making use of Defra awards from the England Rural Development Plan to expand, diversify and thus create and promote specialist and regional foods.

Leading government ministers, including Secretary of State Margaret Beckett, Food and Farming Minister Lord Whitty and Environment Minister Michael Meacher attended the event, which was staged at Defra HQ in London.

"I was very pleased to be invited to the Foodwise event," said David Rose. "It was a great marketing opportunity, and very useful to meet other producers who are all looking to add value and create marketing opportunities."

Alongside Farmshop Home Delivery were other producers who have expanded their businesses successfully to meet consumers' demands - offering samples of delicious cheeses, chutneys, sauces, smoked meats, apple juice, flavoured water and seasonal ice-cream.

Our very own meal solutions - Farmshop Specials - also went down a treat with visitors to the exhibition.

Lord Whitty said: "British food producers are facing tough times at the moment, but it is gratifying to see that diversification and adding value to their products can help make a big difference to their fortunes."

Defra aims to create a sustainable future for the UK farming industry by helping food and farming businesses develop in a way which will help them reconnect to consumers' needs. Grants such as the Rural Enterprise Scheme and the Processing and Marketing Grant help producers to develop business opportunities and add value to their products by creating specialist and regional foods, thus providing consumers with a greater choice of locally produced food.
