An exciting new opportunity
We Require Suppliers! Are you a
supplier who is interested in supplying
sustainable product lines into Public Procurement
into the London supply chain?
Then we want to hear from you - We are
able to offer assessment, advice, supply
chain brokerage, and training for food preparation
of staff all free of charge.
David is working on a project funded by
the Mayor of London called the Local Food
Infrastructure Project.
The aims of this project are wide ranging
but his part of this project is to get more
sustainable food into the kitchens and cafeterias
of the public sector.
Sustainable food is food that:
- Contributes to thriving local economies
and sustainable livelihoods
- Protects the diversity of both plants
and animals (and the welfare of farmed and
wild species), and avoids damaging natural
resources and contributing to climate change;
- Provides social benefits, such as good
quality food, safe healthy products, and
educational opportunities.
"Changing your purchasing practices
is a great way to help your organisation
meet its sustainability commitments. We
are able to offer you a range of assistance
your journey towards sustainability including:
assessment, advice, supply chain brokerage,
and training for food preparation staff
all free of charge." says David.
"Im going to be working part
time in London for Sustains London
Food Link project a local food network for
London, which promotes a sustainable food
economy and works to influence policy-making
on food issues that affect the health and
well-being of Londoners and the environment."
"This project is commissioned by the
Mayor of London's Office to increase the
amount of sustainable food supplied to the
Public Sector in London. Our initial focus
is to work with Universities Schools and
Prisons to help them achieve their sustainability
aims through their food purchasing."
"Sustain have been working in the
area of sustainable procurement for a number
of years but have not yet given much attention
to the Public Procurement sector in London.
We would like to amend this and would appreciate
having the opportunity to speak with you
as a potential supplier about this project."
"We are able to offer assessment,
advice, supply chain brokerage free of charge.
SO WHAT WE NEED ARE SUPPLIERS based around
the London corridor which can stretch to
100 miles."
Sustain Press Release:
Do you want a new customer who wants your
produce 52 weeks of the year? on a long
term contract? who pays reliably?
Three new project officers at Sustain have
recently joined an ongoing project to increase
the amount of sustainable food supplied
to the public sector in London. One of the
team, David Rose, is a farmer with a strong
background in helping other farmers bring
their products to new markets. He has previously
been involved in a number of projects looking
at farmers working together on marketing
ideas and supplying schools with regional
produce.
David explains "The public sector
spends approximately £2 billion a
year on providing food and is increasingly
interested in sourcing that food locally
and sustainably. They are a desirable customer
for farmers because they have consistent
demand legislative requirements to pay for
goods on time".
David's employment along the food chain
has also included managing and directing
a regional food hub and co-ordinating the
supply and delivery of local produce to
schools. He, along with the other project
officers, will be working to help make sure
that London's public organisations are using
their funds to support local producers.
There are great opportunities for farmers
who want to get their products into places
like universities, prisons, schools, and
hospitals. We are looking for farmers local
to London (i.e. within 100 miles of the
M25), who are interested in the principles
of sustainability, and looking for new markets
for their products. We will be working hard
to help producers take advantage of the
large buying requirements of this sector.
